The Republican was found dead in a hotel room in Minnesota, writes the Chicago Tribune.

Arriving police found in the room a stack of papers and a suicide note. In her 81-year-old man complained of bad health and ending health insurance.

The day before his death Smith had published in his blog two entries. In one he challenged the conclusions of the intelligence agencies about Russian “interference” in the elections of the President of the United States.

In early may in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Smith said that several hacker groups sent him e-mails Hillary Clinton, but he was not sure of its authenticity. A few days later after talking with reporters the man was found dead.

Recall that last year against Hillary Clinton was under investigation due to the fact that she used a personal mail server for official correspondence when he was Secretary of state. However, on the personal orders of the then head of the FBI the case was closed.
