The German Parliament — the Bundestag — legalized same-sex marriage. The corresponding decision by the majority of votes adopted the country’s Parliament.
Spoke out against the Conservative bloc led by Angela Merkel. However, the decision was made by a majority of 393 votes, opposed by 226 MPs, with 4 abstentions.
Merkel herself also said that he voted against legalization, while earlier urging MPs to vote according to conscience regardless of the decision of the faction.
The majority of Germans, 74.7 percent, according to opinion polls, support the legalization, and 65,9% want to allow the adoption of children by same-sex couples.
