The Parliament of St. Petersburg rejected the referendum on the transfer of St. Isaac’s Cathedral


The legislative Assembly of St.-Petersburg declared inconsistent with Russian law, the holding of a referendum on the transfer of the Saint Isaac’s Cathedral Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). Decision adopted by 38 votes to 10.

Informed their conclusions made the legal division of the legislative Assembly and the parliamentary Committee on legislation. Both admitted the issue is not with the relevant laws of the Russian Federation. In particular, it was noted inconsistencies with the Federal law on the transfer of property of religious purpose to religious organizations.
