Poroshenko canceled “law Savchenko”


The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has canceled “Savchenko’s law”, which provided for the classification of each day pre-trial detention for the defendants two days of the sentence.

The Ukrainian leader signed the law “On amendments to the criminal code of Ukraine on the rules of summation of punishments and transfer of the pretrial detention”.

Savchenko’s law” was enacted in 2015 when the Ukrainian servicewoman Nadezhda Savchenko was in a Russian prison on charges of involvement in the death of Russian journalists in the Donbass. The adoption of the law was initiated by it, the law came into force in December 2015.

As noted by the Minister of justice of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko during the operation of this act about eight thousand dangerous criminals were released, of which about two thousand have become repeat offenders.
