The President of Moldova Igor Dodon criticized the decision of the government of the Republic on the expulsion of five Russian diplomats. The politician called on Moscow not to take hasty decisions in response to this “provocation” by the ruling Pro-European coalition.
“Do not succumb to provocations,” – said at a press conference Igor Dodon, noting that the response from the Russian leadership would hurt the citizens of the Republic (quoted by TASS).
The President of Moldova announced that will soon convene a meeting of the security Council, which require a report from the Minister of foreign Affairs and the head of service of information and security, signed the decree on the expulsion of Russian diplomats.
In his opinion, the actions of officials jeopardized the safety of Moldova. “It is logical that they resigned,” Plotnikov said to RIA Novosti.
Dodon also said that he intends to discuss the expulsion of diplomats from Chisinau with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. It is expected that this will happen during the forthcoming visit of the Moldavian leader at the international economic forum in St. Petersburg. “We’ll discuss it, but not on a hot head”, – told reporters the President of Moldova.
The press-Secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is waiting for the Moldovan President at a forum in St. Petersburg. However, he did not specify whether Putin is ready to discuss what happened with the Dodon.
On Monday the Moldovan foreign Ministry declared five Russian diplomats persona non grata. This decision, according to Prime Minister Paul Philip, was made on the basis of intelligence information. While the media wrote that the expulsion is connected with the spy scandal.
