“All right”: NATO ignored the ban on Russian social networks in Ukraine

NATO share the position of Kiev about the fact that the blocking of Russian Internet resources is a safety issue, not freedom of speech. About the Agency TASS said the press service of the military-political bloc.

“The Ukrainian government has made clear that this decision is a safety issue, not freedom of speech,” said the Agency in the Alliance.

NATO said that the organization is working with the Ukrainian authorities on the strengthening of their reforms, including in matters of democracy, human rights, rule of law and freedom of the press.

“We believe Ukraine’s commitment to its international obligations and the existing in Ukraine system of checks and balances,” concluded NATO.

On the eve of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on the extension of anti-Russian sanctions. Under the ban, among other things, was a Russian social network “Vkontakte” and “Classmates”, all services of the company “Yandex” blocked the assets of several Russian TV companies.

The people of Ukraine for the most part met the news with indignation, and even threatened the authorities of the “third Maidan”. Meanwhile, Russian Internet companies have already released for Ukrainian users instructions for handling locks.

In turn, experts estimate that at full lock on the Russian sites Ukraine will need two years and a billion dollars.
