The Prosecutor General’s office announced an “Open Russia” Khodorkovsky junk organization

The Prosecutor General’s office reported that at the initiative of former Yukos owner Mikhail Khodorkovsky organization “Open Russia” will be considered spam. Along with it the same status was awarded to a number of organizations. This entails a ban on the registration of the organization and disseminating information on its behalf.In GP, the Russian Federation recognized that “Open Russia” inspires protests in Russia.

As stated by the official representative of the Supervisory Department Alexander Kurennoy, the decision was made in the GP of the Russian Federation on April 26 on the results of the study of the material received. We are talking about the following organizations: OR (Otkrytaya Rossia) (Open Russia) (UK), Institute of Modern Russia, Inc. (“the Institute of modern Russia”) (USA), Open Russia Civic Movement, Open Russia (the Social network movement “Open Russia”) (UK), RIA “Novosti”.

Kurennoy said that he had been identified, the activities of these organizations in Russia aimed to “discredit the election results,” “the recognition of their results illegitimate”.

In addition, the organization was involved in instigating the protests and destabilize the political situation in Russia. All this, according to the representative of the GP of the Russian Federation, threatened the “foundations of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation and state security”.

Now the Ministry of justice must make a decision about the inclusion of these organizations in the list.

Than it threatens the “Open Russia”? According to the informational legal portal PPT.RU the status of the undesirable organization entails from the prohibition on registration in Russia of branches or units to close previously organized offices. Could also be a ban on the dissemination of information on behalf of the organization, including on the Internet.

However, if the organization’s activities were not criminal offences, then it and its members can be fined. If the activities of such an organization is seen repeated Commission of the acts which led to the status of undesirability , individuals may face different punishment up to deprivation of liberty for a term up to 8 years.
