Stepashin admitted that Yeltsin had instructed him to demolish the Lenin mausoleum

Former Prime Minister Sergei Stepashin in an interview with “Historian” said that in 1998, Russian President Boris Yeltsin instructed to demolish the Lenin mausoleum.

Stepashin, who at that time was Minister of internal Affairs, explained that the interior Ministry was supposed to maintain order during the events of the demolition.

Stepashin claims that he agreed to comply with the order of the Supreme commander, but warned that he was not sure that after this he will remain a Minister and Yeltsin – President.

“Christian, of course, Lenin’s corpse can not be shown. It is a sin. But now is not the time to remove the mausoleum, is not necessary. What, is he stopping you?” – gave Stepashin your words then Yeltsin. He added that President his arguments heard.
