Meeting in Chernobyl: what Poroshenko will try to convince Lukashenko

The head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the Chernobyl zone. Near the fourth power unit of the leaders of the two Slavic States tried to renew the relationship, which made a crack. Recall, the discord in the Affairs of the two neighbouring States happened after the aircraft was deployed in the sky and returned to the airport “Juliani” in the autumn of last year, and only intensified after the night of freedom Day in Belarus was detained by Ukrainian nationalists, ready “Minsk Maydan”.

31 th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy, which was celebrated according to tradition in Pripyat, came to the head of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, where he waited Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko. After the mourning part with the wreath laying ceremony, the two presidents gave a small press conference, the results of which became clear — the friendship between Minsk and Kiev.“The border between Ukraine and Belarus was, is and will be a border of friendship, reliable partnership and emphasize the world”, — said Poroshenko.

According to the leader of “the square”, he received assurances from his Belarusian colleagues that no third force will not quarrel “old friends” and will not involve Minsk in the war against Kiev. It is obvious that under the third power Poroshenko was referring to Russia, spies and saboteurs which, in the opinion of Ukrainian politicians and intelligence agencies, does roam Ukraine.

The old man in turn tried to convince Petro Poroshenko that the Belarusian people are ready to do everything to help restore peace in Ukraine. At the same time, the President of Belarus noted that it is time to stop all the “internecine squabble and sort out relations with arms”. “We can come to you only on the tractor to help plow the land,” — said Lukashenko.

By the way, many scientists believe that the Minsk talks are the main political motive for the meeting, and a discussion of the partnership and the anniversary of the radioactive disaster is just an excuse. Director of the Belarusian analytical centre “the Actual Concept” Alexander Shpakovsky believes that the resolution of the conflict in the East of Ukraine is in the interests of his country.

– In 2014 we lost about 3-4 billion dollars of net income from trade with Ukraine due to the decrease in the purchasing power of their citizens. However, the main problem is the arms trade and rampant extremist organizations in Ukraine, which maintain contacts with his supporters in Belarus. We were convinced repeatedly that the Ukrainian radicals threaten the integrity of our country. In addition, our citizens are fighting for the militia, and for radicals. After it is all over, they will return back and will be dangerous for us. As far as I know, two Ukrainians still sitting in Belarusian detention centers for extremism, as well as two citizens of Belarus convicted for participating in the fighting in the compositions of the groups “the Right Sector” and “Azov” (both organizations are banned in Russia),” said Shpakovsky.

The political scientist also did not rule out that Petro Poroshenko will use the negotiation venue in Belarus to promote personal interests.

“I think the President will be to convince Alexander Lukashenko to the need for the introduction of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbass. However, this can be done in the framework of international law, I don’t understand. UN peacekeepers come to the place where the forces of the parties are already divorced, and the Donbas is still military equipment. In addition, Kiev calls militias terrorists, and in the area of the ATO, UN peacekeeping forces are not sent. In any case, even if the peacekeepers appear in the Donbas, there are no guarantees what will happen the de-escalation of the conflict. I believe that their presence is the geography of the fighting will grow”, — concluded the analyst.
