People who drink large amounts of alcohol over a short period time, risking not only drunk, but also greatly harm their health. To such conclusion the group of experts representing the Munich Ludwig-Maximilian University. According to scientists, addiction to drink alcoholic drinks in one gulp can cause heart problems such as arrhythmia, heart failure or even a heart attack.
The study was conducted during the festival, one of the distinguishing features of which is the abundance of beer sold with slightly higher content of alcohol and the tradition of drinking it in large enough quantities. Experts checked out, does excess drinking of alcohol on the heartbeat of the visitors, and came to the conclusion that many do. In most cases, the arrhythmia was “almost harmless” scientists noticed sinus tachycardia, there are a few heart palpitations, but quite quickly the situation came to normal without any consequences for the organism (at least in the short term). However, in some cases the beer had a heart much more negative impact.
In particular, the specialists noted that they were able to notice the relationship between amount of alcohol consumed per kilogram of body weight and risk of heart attack or other serious problems with the cardiovascular system.
The researchers also suggest that even a small and harmless-looking violations of the heart rate may have on the body negative effects, although direct evidence was not obtained. In particular, experts do not exclude that the addiction to drinking alcohol in one gulp may lead to the development of atrial fibrillation.
The work on the study was published in the scientific journal European Heart Journal. In the future, scientists hope to continue to study the issue of the impact of alcohol on health while watching the volunteers over a longer time.
