U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson and the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held telephone talks, during which discussed current issues, including the tense situation in Donbass, as well as the results of the visit of the head of the state Department in Moscow. In addition, Poroshenko expressed condolences in connection with death of a member of the OSCE monitoring mission, US citizen, in the East of Ukraine.
“The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expressed condolences to the American representative of the Special OSCE monitoring mission, who died on 23 April as a result of blasting on a mine patrol car in the Donbass and condemned all forms of permanent obstruction by the separatists SMM work of the OSCE”, – stated in the message published by the press service of the President of Ukraine on the official website of the President.
As explained in the press service of the President of Ukraine during a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson proposed to intensify efforts to settle in the East of Ukraine in international peacekeeping contingent under the auspices of the United Nations.
“The President and the Secretary of state noted the dangerous development of the situation in Donbas, stressing the importance for Russia to fulfill the Minsk agreements. The President of Ukraine called for the preservation of a United international front in the policy of sanctions against Russia until full restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine… And also thanked the American partners for the firm and consistent position in support of Ukraine on the basis of the principle of “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine”, – stated in the message.
“The Secretary reiterated the strong commitment of the authorities of the United States to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He assured the Ukrainian President that the sanctions will remain in force until Russia will return control of the Crimean Peninsula of Ukraine and does not implement fully their commitments under the Minsk agreements,” – said Toner.
