PACE President apologized for the erroneous trip to Syria

The head of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Pedro Agramunt confessed that his mission to the Syrian Arab Republic, together with the delegation of deputies of the state Duma of Russia was a serious mistake. With such statement the head of the PACE made at the Assembly session in Strasbourg.

“I have to say the following: this trip was a mistake, I admit it, considering its implications. I apologize for this mistake,” said Agramunt. According to him, the mistake was that he underestimated the ambiguous and largely condemning the reaction to the visit to Syria by the PACE representatives.

Agramunt said that his trip to Syria “has become an object of manipulation” by the media. In particular, his statements were interpreted as support for the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

After this pokayatelnymi performances of Agramunt some PACE deputies have demanded from the head Assembly to raise the question of censure. As a result of the sharp accusations Agramunt adjourned the meeting for 10 minutes.

However after the break the PACE President in the Assembly hall and never returned.
