The Kremlin has refused to “give up” Assad for a “deal” with the United States

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called “return to the old mantra” Declaration of the West thesis that “Assad must go”.

According to “Interfax”, he noted that it is unable to bring a political settlement in Syria.

“The only option is to continue the very hard work of the Geneva process and efforts in the framework of the Astana process that are underway,” – said Peskov, commenting on the statement of foreign Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault, called for Russia to look for alternatives to Assad.

Earlier, adviser to the US President on national security General Herbert McMaster called Russia’s refusal to support the regime of Bashar al-Assad a possible part of a larger deal between the two countries on the Syrian settlement.

In this regard, a source close to the foreign Ministry said that Moscow will not consider this option.
