DW: blockade of Donbass has turned the idea of the reunification of Ukraine in “an empty phrase”

The decision of the Council of national security and defence (NSDC) of Ukraine about the transport blockade of Donbass is contrary to the Minsk agreements and puts an end to the possibility of the return of the unrecognized republics in the country, says columnist German publication Deutsche Welle Brand Joan.

He believes that the suspension of transport communication will only hasten the process of disintegration of the country. “It undermines the unity of the nation, and the administration’s decision Poroshenko about the situation in Belarus can have serious consequences for the South-East of Ukraine”, — said Joan.

Initiative of the national security Council became a kind of concession to the Ukrainian radicals, who for two months had blocked the rail link between Kiev and the unrecognized republics. “Thus, the government’s plans for reintegration of Donbass turned into an empty phrase,” says the author.

Joan also emphasizes that the behavior of the Ukrainian administration against the letter of the Minsk agreements. “Kiev puts fools the leaders of those countries seeking to resolve the conflict in Donbass”, — said in the article. The Explorer is convinced that Paris and Berlin are sceptical of the initiative of the NSDC.

Previously the Council of national security and defense of Ukraine adopted the decision on the termination of cargo transportation with uncontrolled Kiev territories of Donbass. The government stated that the measures dictated by the need “to protect the national interests of Ukraine in connection with worsening situation in the conflict zone.” For the early lifting of the embargo has acted as head of the foreign Ministry of France Jean-Marc Ayrault and representatives of the US state Department.
