Ukraine begins to change its attitude to Crimea

Speaking of Crimea, the Ukrainian statesmen usually take an uncompromising stance. But the ice is finally broken: the number of members of Parliament directly recognized the failure of the policy on the Crimean direction and offered an alternative. Although the discussion surfaced imagination, according to which the Soviet government laid the Crimea to the Americans, it can be considered the first step of the Ukrainians towards the recognition of reality.

The Verkhovna Rada Deputy from the Radical party Andrei Artemenko has repeatedly expressed a revolutionary thought over the future of Crimea – for which he paid a criminal case. The most notorious of his proposal was to ensure that Ukraine should hold a referendum on the transfer of the Peninsula is leased by Russia for 30-50 years, and after this period to organize a new plebiscite on the belonging of the Crimea.

“In 1920, Russia received a loan in the amount of $ 50 million from the government of the United States of America. They laid the Crimea as a territory that needs to be transferred to the United States”

Russian officials are expected responded with a statement that the question of supplies of Crimea is closed, Ukrainian prosecutors opened against the Deputy case under article “treason”. The party members voted to remove Artemenko from the faction and recommended that he hand over the Deputy mandate, but of course he refused. Moreover, as expected all the “misunderstood” politicians, in any case, issued a strong critical statement against the current government:

“We see a complete stagnation of the economy of Ukraine and the war of all against all in the Ukraine. We tumbled into chaos, the Makhnovshchina. A couple of weeks, and collecting Ukraine would be impossible. Third square is a parade of regional sovereignties. Then Russians will try in earnest – and there will be support separatist sentiment in the South-East. I don’t want this to happen”.

Artemenko also described current President Petro Poroshenko as “Yanukovych 2.0”, which, however, “speaks in English”. According to the Deputy, the acting head of state still does not understand why he became President. While the country is living in “post-Soviet system of control”, as Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman it is better to be stuck in the Cabinet in 1972.

“We have to change the existing regime is possible in two cases: either independence or the U.S. position. The only person afraid of Poroshenko, is trump. He even Putin is not afraid, as afraid of trump,” – said the Deputy.

He later tried to clarify its position over Crimea, adding that his proposal for the lease of the Peninsula will allow to resume the sovereignty of Ukraine and not to lose it completely. “The basis of a peaceful settlement can be a expert idea, for example, dual sovereignty or international administration for the transitional period”, – the Deputy said in another interview.

However, he tried to distance itself from the initiative to transfer Crimea to Russia, saying that it was the idea of a lawyer, U.S. President, Michael Cohen. Cohen, of course, denied everything.

Thus, all “lookup” the speech had no effect, and the risk of loss of parliamentary immunity still hovers over the head Artemenko. In this regard, it is decided whether to pass initiative America finally, whether to pretend to be a fool. Namely, in another interview with the resource Lb.ua the Deputy went on a “historical discovery”:

“In 1920, Russia received a loan in the amount of $ 50 million from the government of the United States of America. They laid the Crimea as a territory that needs to be transferred to the United States, if it is not returned. In 1954 came the maturity of the amounts. And there was a project called “New California”, if anyone knows – is the territory of the Crimea. I’m sure that’s why Crimea was transferred to Ukraine in order to preserve this territory for the Soviet Union,” said Artemenko.

The truth in this “discovery” is little more than the well-known legend about how the ancient Ukrainians, before leaving to found the majority of world civilizations, dug the Black sea.

Some basis for this fantasy on a historical theme is that in 1952 the leaders of the “Jewish anti-fascist Committee” was convicted by a Soviet court for having allegedly intended to create in the Crimea with the assistance of the USA the “bourgeois Republic.” The absurdity of this accusation (which, by the way, shot 24 people) was so obvious that the whole group was rehabilitated in 1955. Moreover, Lavrenti Beria proposed to justify the convicts in this case back in the summer of 1953. In any case, any debts, in the event of default of which the Soviet Union had to send someone any of your territory, of course, did not exist.

On the one hand, Artemenko can only regret, in order not to be in prison, he has to invent a fake theory. On the other, to his credit, including the fact that Ukraine finally began to discuss the Crimea not from the point of view of “return without any preconditions,” that is a painful stubbornness, and from the point of view of the current agenda. Full scoperta made Nadezhda Savchenko, Artemenko only developed the theme in the measure of his talent. But gradually began to catch up with new faces.

So, a former journalist, now member of Parliament, Mustafa Nayyem (who became famous, by the way, that acted as the instigator of such a sad ending euromaidan, first calling on Kiev to enter the area), offered to restore trade relations with the Crimea.

“There are products that we need to deliver products of the first necessity, like water and electricity under international humanitarian law we have to deliver,” said Nye, who was elected to Parliament from Blok Petro Poroshenko. According to the Deputy, the bill is already being prepared.

Ukrainian commentators are not yet appreciated this idea appreciated. “Maybe they have yet to wash floors?” – outraged one of the readers of a site “Crimea. Realities” sponsored by the US state Department. It is, however, understandable, because the supporters of the “territorial integrity of Ukraine” we need a territory. Residents of Donbas or Crimea, in their opinion, should at least repent in front of them for decades. As a maximum – to be interned either in Russia or in Western Ukraine “re-education”.

And yet progress is being made. While the Ukrainian radicals against the interests of the economic and energy security of their own countries are engaged in the blockade of Donbass, in Kiev finally begins debate on the future of Crimea, more close to reality. More recently, similar to the Kiev corridors of power was afraid to say.

The problem, however, is that these Russian innovators also does not intend to bargain. Moscow’s position is unequivocal: the results of the referendum are not subject to revision, Crimea is Russian. The removal of the trade “blockade” – is another matter. However, our position is stable and there is no trade blockades must not be allowed, and the organizers just trying to aggravate the situation and to deliver to the neighbours-Crimean more inconveniences.

Ukraine will sooner or later have to accept the loss of Crimea as Germany accepted the loss of Alsace and Lorraine or East Prussia. Fantastic theory of Artemenko is only the first, tentative steps on this journey. Nayem and suggestions on the restoration of trade with the Crimea is a logical development of the situation.

We emphasize once again: Crimea have already chosen their future, and to Ukraine it’s time to stop clinging to the past. But the Ukrainian side, trying to find some constructive way is welcome. If earlier Ukrainian politicians prefer to escape from reality, but now have at least her to look back.
