13-day humanitarian pause in Aleppo: what’s next

Russian and Syrian planes for 13 days did not make any flights over Aleppo and not strikes in Syria. This was stated by the official representative of the Ministry of defense of Russia major-General Igor Konashenkov. At this time, the General said, the international coalition led by the United States caused nine strikes on the Iraqi city of Mosul million. “To be clear about the “selectivity” of such attacks and respect the coalition of international humanitarian law, I note that two of the nine strikes on city blocks fulfilled the American strategic bombers b-52N”, — said Konashenkov.

It should be noted that Russian aircraft had previously also launched air strikes using long-range strategic bombers. However, in contrast to the coalition it was a terrorist infrastructure located away from major settlements.

In addition, General Konashenkov said that despite the suspension of air strikes on Aleppo, the terrorists themselves do not reduce the intensity of the shelling of homes and humanitarian corridors. “Last night through one of the corridors, in the area of El-Masharka managed to get to safe areas of the city 12 the Syrians, — said Konashenkov. — According to the refugees, it became possible after a large bribe to one of the commanders at the rate of 150 thousand Syrian liras ($300) for each one published. To collect a sum of 1.8 million pounds, three families had to sell all property.”

Let me remind you that last week the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the General staff of the Russian Federation appealed to the Supreme commander with a request to allow the resumption of our videoconferencing strikes on terrorists in Eastern Aleppo. But the President didn’t give permission. According to Peskov, “the President of Russia considers it inappropriate at the present time, the resumption of air strikes on Aleppo. The President has in mind is possible to continue the humanitarian pause for withdrawal of the wounded and the release of militants who wish to leave the city, and, more importantly, to provide an opportunity for our American partners to execute previously taken on promises and commitments on delimitation of the so-called moderate opposition and terrorist groups. However, in connection with the announcement of the terrorists about planned fighting intensified in connection with what is real, they have already passed in part to active offensive operations, the Russian President believes that when absolutely necessary to prevent provocative actions on the part of terrorist groups, the Russian side reserves the right to use all the means at its disposal the forces and means to provide the proper level of support to the Armed forces of the Syrian Arab Republic.” The representative of the Kremlin noted that the terms “humanitarian pause” and any “decisions on further action will be taken depending on the situation”, while taking into account the position of the General staff and the information coming directly from Syria.
