Scientists boasted sperm Bank cocks and dream about GMOs


The sperm Bank of roosters, the ability of bulls-manufacturers and of the ability of microorganisms to improve the lives of Russians up to 2025 was discussed on Wednesday at a General meeting of the RAS scientists of different scientific schools. Scientific session was entitled: “Genetic resources of plants, animals and micro-organisms in the service of humanity”.

It seems, has finally realized this and in the Russian government: the President has signed the decree about development of agriculture, the creation until 2026 competitive technologies based on modern achievements of science.

For each resident we have 1.5 hectares of land, which is three times more than the world average. With such resources, the country has an obligation to provide not only its own population but to occupy a significant sector of the global manufacturing market. That is precisely the challenge we and the government”.

The priorities of the program of development of agriculture was allocated by the head of the FANO Michael kotyukov is providing development on potato, poultry, production of sugar beets, and viticulture. Until the end of the year, according to Kotyukov, scientists will need to complete an inventory of all the bio-resource collections and to digitize the data. Farms, outstanding 6 thousand kg from each cow, more, 67 of them are located in Tatarstan, 66 — in the Leningrad region and 58 in the Krasnodar region. As for beef cattle, here the emphasis is on improving the growth rate of cows. One speaker mentioned a dozen created in Russia the leading beef breeds, not inferior to foreign “counterparts.” There are successes and pig farmers, and pastoralists. The role of genetics in creating new breeds of “desired properties” is perhaps not the most important. About the special role of microorganisms is also able to improve the quality of agricultural products, said the academician, biotechnologist Igor TIKHONOVICH. He reminded the audience that the person is “full of microorganisms”, in each gram of soil contains 10 to 9-th degree of the microbes, and the science is known only 5-7% of these amazing creatures. And they, incidentally, would be able to provide us with many services. As an example, the scientist gave soybeans, which due to its flavonoid daidzin theoretically has anti-cancer properties. In General, as one would expect, researchers in the agricultural sector, summarizing the scientific session, noted that the share of genetically modified products in our diet in the future will inevitably grow: now in the world of the 1.5 million hectares under planting of GMO plants employ more than 12%. For reference, in Russia today the production of genetically modified products is prohibited. Meanwhile, the import from abroad and sell in local shops foreign types of GMO products. The result is that the whole world of genetic science develops, and sells products (including us), and in Russia, scientists are still forced to sneak mention of his achievements in the field of genetic improvement of products.
