Media: the United States wanted to give the Syrian opposition heavy weapons to fight videoconferencing

The US government wanted to provide “moderate Syrian opposition” heavy weapons to protect and fight against Russian troops in the country. This is reported by American media.

According to The Washington Post, Washington planned to send, supported by the CIA forces a weapon that “could help these groups to protect themselves from the Russian aviation and artillery”.

The transmission project “large amount of firepower” was discussed at the recent meetings of President Barack Obama and his national security team, says TASS referring to the American publication, adding that “not approved but not rejected the plan remained in limbo”.

As a result, the question “hung in the air” from the fact that the U.S. administration is skeptical about the expansion of a secret CIA program in which trained and armed with “thousands of Syrian rebels over the last three years,” said WP in the White house. The source added that the program of arming the rebels was “a Central element of the strategy to put pressure on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad” to seek his resignation.

Currently in the US administration have questioned the wisdom of expanding the plan because of the vigorous activity of the Russian military space forces in Syria, and Obama decided to pass the future of this program in the hands of the next President.
