Russia for an unexpected reason, has refused to extradite Ukrainian Director Sentsov

The Ministry of justice refused to Kiev in the results of the Ukrainian Director Oleg Sentsov, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison of strict regime on charges of preparing attacks in the Crimea. As it turned out, after the annexation of the Peninsula Sentsov is a Russian citizen.

Deputy Minister of justice of Ukraine for European integration Sergei Petukhov said in his Facebook about the fact that Russia refused the transfer of Oleg Sentsov.

To his post, he attached a photocopy of the reply of the Ministry of justice of the Russian Federation from 7 October. The paper States that “Sentsov acquired Russian citizenship” in accordance with the law “About acceptance to the Russian Federation the Republic of Crimea”.

“Due to the fact that Sentsov is a Russian citizen, the transfer to Ukraine of the convicted person in accordance with the Convention on the transfer of sentenced persons of 1983 is impossible”, — the document says.

According to the Federal constitutional law on joining of Crimea to Russia, the inhabitants of the Peninsula, within a month does not write a statement about refusing the citizenship of the Russian Federation, will automatically become Russians.

The protection of Ukrainian Director claims that Oleg Sentsov even have Russian passports, so the citizen of the Russian Federation it can not be considered. The lawyer condemned Dmitry Dinze said earlier that the Prosecutor General’s office admitted that Sentsov dual citizenship.

“The situation is actually a stalemate, we will deal with the Ministry of justice of Ukraine, which should be somehow addressed this issue with the Russian justice Ministry,” – he said “Interfax”.

Oleg Sentsov was detained in Crimea in 2014. In August 2015 the North Caucasus district military court in Rostov-na-Donu year sentenced him to 20 years in a penal colony for the creation of the territory of the Peninsula of the terrorist community. Ukraine has repeatedly stated that Sentsov should be transferred to Kiev, pointing out that he is a citizen of this country.
