The evening of 17 October, the Russian defense Ministry invited the militants and the civilians to leave area of fighting in Aleppo in a specially designed corridors. October 20 8.00-16.00 Moscow time for the implementation of this plan will be declared a special “humanitarian pause”. The reasons for this decision and the role played in its decision, the factor of international pressure, together with the “MK” was investigated by the specialists.
Almost simultaneously with the beginning of a decisive assault on the citadel banned in Russia organization ISIS in Iraq – Mosul, consecrated the Western coalition in the Chapter with NATO, the Russian defense Ministry announced a “humanitarian pause” to another “hot spot” in the Middle East – the Syrian Aleppo.
With reference to the head of the Main Directorate of the General staff Lieutenant-General Sergey Rudskoy domestic news agencies reported that Russian and Syrian troops will cease attacks from 8.00 to 16.00 (GMT) on 20 October. This pause is, according to Armenian President, will be made “primarily for the free passage of civilians and evacuation of the sick and wounded and the withdrawal of fighters”, which opened two corridors on the way to Castello and in the district of Souk El-Hai. According to him, said a Russian General, “the militants can easily enter the area of Idlib. These same corridors can be used to evacuate the sick and wounded. Six corridors opened for the passage of civilians.”
The humanitarian nature of the action is obvious. But does not prevent it advancing Syrian troops at Aleppo? And the question about the size of the foreign component remains: as previously reported, the U.S. and its allies threatened Russia with new sanctions because of the situation in Aleppo.
– Of course, the reduction of the rate of occurrence of the harm in terms of military tactics. However, the issue of “humanitarian pause” dominated considerations of a higher order,- said the “MK” first Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Konstantin Zatulin.- Now we are forced to fight for the minds of people in the West who succumb to the hostile propaganda and take sides with those who wish to harm Russia, including the continuation and even strengthening of anti-Russian sanctions. At first, there was a chance in Syria to begin a common struggle against the terrorist forces of Russia and the West. But it is Russia’s desire to build bridges was not appreciated by our prospective partners that eventually led to serious discrepancies not only on Ukraine but also on Syria. For its part, the West is doing everything to prove the guilt of Russia in the first place, its public opinion, that while it undoubtedly does. And in this regard all our decisions on Aleppo must be taken with a sober accounting of our capabilities — what we can afford without breaking the whole logic of this operation, and the whole field of the world competition as a whole, where, in addition to Syria, there is also Ukraine, the state of our economy and many other sectors.
– The situation the extremely difficult,- explained “MK” Professor of the chair of modern East Department of history, political science and law in RSUH Kosach Grigorii.- On the one hand, the population of Aleppo, indeed, in dire need of humanitarian assistance. But on the other, the decision of the Ministry of defense of Russia on “humanitarian pause” is the result of a powerful pressure on our country, including those triggered by the recent attack on the humanitarian convoy, which, despite all our explanations, the West accused Russia. The situation is not very comfortable and for the Syrian opposition. Neither in Lausanne nor in London was nothing of what she could expect. And now the Syrian opposition says about the extreme inconsistency of the US and has openly stated that it has allowed Russian “down to earth” and to achieve success.
In this situation, he said, the Syrian opposition could derail the implementation of “humanitarian pauses” just because this proposal was made by Russia. However, then on the foreground there will be the question of what to do militarily:
– Naturally, the establishment of full control of the Syrian government over Aleppo could be a turning point of the war. But it will be the end of the Syrian opposition, because it simply won’t stay in the country database, and Assad will be in full benefit. The West, of course, is not satisfied. Therefore, Russia has to oscillate between what she wants and what she can do and take into account the presence of forces that do not want the victory of Assad.
