The Ministry of foreign Affairs: participants of the meeting in Lausanne confirmed the need to maintain a unified Syria


The website of the Russian foreign Ministry issued a statement on the outcome of talks on Syria in Lausanne, which was attended by the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov.

The publication said that the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of all participants in the preservation of Syria as a whole, independent of the secular state. The future of the country will have to define the Syrians themselves in the internal political dialogue.

In turn, Sergei Lavrov stressed at the meeting that the implementation of the cease-fire is necessary the dissociation of the moderate opposition from the militants which is not a party to the ceasefire agreement.

It was also noted that the operation against terrorists of the Islamic state and “Dzhebhat an-Nusra” (both groups were banned in Russia) will be continued.
