Japan stopped funding UNESCO

The Japanese government froze funding of UNESCO in protest against the decision of the organization about the inclusion of documents on the massacre in the Chinese city of Nanjing in 1937, in the world heritage List. Japan had in fact more than 10% of the budget of the organization.

According to the head of the foreign Ministry, Fumio Kishida, “the decision was made on the basis of a comprehensive evaluation of various factors.
