The Russian government will significantly cut spending on the media


The government deliberately significantly cut funding for public media. By 2019, it will be reduced by 6-20%. This is stated in the draft Federal budget for 2017-2019.

According to the newspaper “Vedomosti” by 2019, public funding of VGTRK will be reduced by nine percent to 20.5 billion. Next year the company will receive from the budget of 21 billion rubles, and in 2018 of 19.82 billion six percent will get less Public television of Russia (OTR) up to 1.27 billion

Up to 16 billion (eight percent) will be reduced funding for the maintenance of the RT. The international news Agency “Russia today” in 2019 will receive 12 percent less than the current 5.4 billion rubles instead of the 6.1 billion rubles.
