The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that independent authorities are seriously discussing the question of withdrawal from the Union of Independent States. According to him, this decision will be made, will require a lot of hard work, because Ukraine is tied to many CIS agreements.
“We are studying the issue of withdrawal from the CIS, but this is a very long process. After all, Ukraine is associated with the Commonwealth several tens of agreements, including mutual recognition of diplomas, pension payments, etc. work is Now being completed that will allow us to settle these agreements… Personally I am a supporter of choice,” – said Pavlo Klimkin in the air of the talk show “People. Hard Talk. LIVE” on TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
“To maintain economic ties with Russia that were previously impossible. A few years ago trade with Russia was, if not mistaken, 37%, now it will be maybe 4-5%. Of course, maybe some connections will remain, but we never go back to what we had, it’s all perfectly clear,” – said the foreign Minister of Ukraine.
“What is happening between Ukraine and Russia is not just a… war for territory… It’s the collapse of the Empire that existed for hundreds of years. Now we have a completely different ideology. Ukraine is a country of freedom,” – said Klimkin.
Note that, formally, Ukraine never ratified the CIS Charter, since its establishment on 8 December 1991, in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, therefore, the de jure has never been a member state of the CIS, while remaining States and a founding member of the Commonwealth.
19 Mar 2014 the national security Council and defense of Ukraine announced the termination of Ukraine’s chairmanship in the CIS, and the Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Andriy paruby announced the withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States.
