The new commander of the airborne troops Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov on Monday, October 10 was officially introduced in office.
Handing the commander the standard, the Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu called the General a competent leader and skilled organizer. According to the Minister of defence, the new commander received the experience of service in the far Eastern, southern and Western regions of Russia. Andrey Serdyukov has passed all it is command-staff posts, starting with the commander of the reconnaissance platoon to the commander of the 12th reserve of the southern military district.
“I think that comprehensive knowledge and business acumen of Colonel Serdyukov will be a great help in addressing important issues of maintaining of combat readiness of the airborne troops at the required level,” – said the Minister.
Andrey Serdyukov, graduated in 1983 the Ryazan higher airborne command school said that for him these troops home. By the way, the new commander is not in kinship with former defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov. The new commander is a native of the Rostov region. Participated in combat operations on the territory of the Chechen Republic, in the peacekeeping operation in the Autonomous province of Kosovo. According to some reports, Serdyukov oversaw the operation on the accession of Crimea to Russia in 2014.
