Russia in the UN security Council blocked the French draft resolution on Aleppo

During the meeting of the UN security Council over a draft French resolution on Syria, providing for the introduction of the ban on military flights over Aleppo and calls to respect the ceasefire in Syria, voted “for” 11 members of the UN security Council.

Another 2 members voted against, 2 abstained. However, Russia has used its veto and blocked the draft resolution. Russia’s envoy to the UN security Council, Vitaly Churkin, called the vote on the two resolutions on Syria, “one of the strangest scenes” in the history of the security Council.
