USA wonder why Russia would want to carry the s-300 to Syria

The Ministry of defense was alarmed by the Kremlin’s decision to throw in the Syria anti-aircraft missile system s-300. According to the American side, such actions do not contribute to the achievement of the previously announced Moscow’s objectives in the SAR.

Commenting on the statement of the official representative of the Ministry of defense of Russia Igor Konashenkov on the redeployment of Russian naval base in Tartus batteries of s-300 “closer to Syria,” press Secretary of the Pentagon Peter cook said that his Ministry did not quite understand the purpose of the Russians and promised that the United States plans to “closely monitor” the deployment of s-300 to Syria.

We will remind, according to the Russian representative, it was made to protect bases and ships of the Navy of Russia, located near the coast in Syria, from air strikes.

“We are very interested in the question, what is the purpose of the s-300, if it is deployed at the borders of Syria, if Russia has previously stated that it intends to fight in Syria, only terrorists. But terrorists have no aircraft,” said Peter cook, quoted by RIA Novosti.

“We continue to liaise with the Ministry of defence of the Russian Federation to prevent conflict situations in Syria and planned to continue to use this channel, but don’t understand the reasons why Russia has deployed s-300 in Syria,” he added.

For its part,

press Secretary of President Barack Obama’s Josh earnest blamed the Russian leadership that such actions as placing s-300 in Syria, contrary to the purposes declared by Russia in the SAR.

“I have no information that ISIS or al Qaeda have planes. Russia may have other intelligence, but I strongly doubt… And then – Moscow’s actions are contrary to the statements of President Vladimir Putin that the efforts of Russia in Syria are concentrated against extremists and terrorists,” he said.
