Russia and Greece even in the current tough times, show a great example of friendship.
Is a friendship forum, the traditional historical closeness of the two countries, – with these words the meeting was opened by Chairman of the Association of cultural and business cooperation and friendship with the peoples of Greece and Cyprus “Filia”, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Russian Association of international cooperation (RAMS) Georgy Muradov. – Greece and Russia are making every effort to show that we are friends. This friendship is not subject to fluctuations at a time when our country down the information attack, and move out of the illegal sanctions. Recent surveys show that 89% of Greeks are in favour of developing closer ties with Russia. And only 7% against.
Participated in the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexei Meshkov and read a welcome message from Sergey Lavrov, said that from historical records we can learn that in the past the Russian diplomatic service were 150 Greek representatives. And the most famous of them – a native of the island of Corfu Ioannis Kapodistrias count played a huge role in the history of both Greece and Russia. In our country, he for several years headed the Ministry of foreign Affairs (1816-1822.), and the homeland became the first ruler of independent Greece.
The Russian service Kapodistrias came after the conclusion of the Tilsit peace Treaty of 1807 between Russia and France. He was alleged to be foreign Minister, was Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Vienna, a diplomatic mission in Switzerland. Exactly one hundred years ago – in 1816 John Kapodistrias was appointed Manager of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire. The Russian diplomat called on Russian manners: Ivan Antonovich Kapodistria. The outbreak of the Greek revolution led to the fact that Kapodistrias left the diplomatic service and returned home where in April 1827 was elected for 7 years by the ruler (President) of the young state. But in October 1831 the opponents of his policy attacked the count and killed him in Nafplion, the former Greek capital.
“We appreciate the contribution of Ioannis Kapodistrias personally contributed to the development of diplomatic thought in our country, – says Alexei Meshkov. – He first suggested the creation of a world body responsible for international security. In fact, he for a hundred years, foretold the establishment of the United Nations”.
It is not surprising that the culmination of the opening ceremony of the Forum in Moscow was the presentation of a gift to the leadership of the Russian foreign Minister Kapodistrias bronze bust by sculptor Gregory Pototsky.
By the way, in Russia already there is a monument of Kapodistrias – it was opened in Saint-Petersburg in 2003 in honor of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city on the Neva. There are statues of the diplomat in Switzerland and Austria, not to mention, of course, about his native Greece.
– Kapodistrias was the total hero of our countries, who not only played an important role in the Congress of Vienna, but also brought new trends in European and world politics, says Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic in the Russian Federation Andreas Fryganas, He worked selflessly in the interests of Russia, and then began to build a new Greece…
200 years ago the Russian foreign Ministry was headed by the first Governor of free Greece
