Australia was opposed to mining in Antarctica

The Australian foreign Minister Julie Bishop said that her country will ensure compliance with the Madrid Protocol on environmental protection to the Antarctic Treaty, which refers to ban mining on the continent. She announced in connection with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Protocol in 1991.

The Antarctic Treaty, she said, is of great importance for successful environmental protection, “continent for peace and international scientific cooperation.
