The new commander of the VDV Shamanov is become Serdyukov

The current commander of the airborne forces, Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov is preparing to leave his post, after approval by the Presidium of the General Council “United Russia” candidate for the position of head of the defense Committee in the new Duma. According to available information, it will be replaced by the chief of staff and first Deputy commander of the southern military district, Lieutenant-General Andrey Serdyukov.

As reported by senior sources in the defense Ministry, the submission on the appointment of Serdyukov commander of the airborne troops sent to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Serdyukov himself had already left the South and headed to the headquarters of airborne at Sokolniki.

“Today the decision on the appointment of the 53-year-old Lieutenant-General Serdyukov to the post has been made at the level of the Ministry of defense. Now the expected decree of the President of the Russian Federation, as officers for the positions of division commander and above shall be appointed only by order of the commander, whom is the head of state. Moreover, the airborne troops have a special status, being the reserve of the Supreme commander, therefore, candidates for the post of commander VDV personally agree with the President,” – said the source “Izvestia”.

“As long as the decree of the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on appointment is not received by the staff of the airborne troops, the commander of the remains, Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov,” – said the official representative of the airborne Irina Kruglov.
