Found five genes that make dogs friends of man

A group of Swedish scientists from the University in linköping, considered the roots of the friendly relations between the people and the dog from the point of view of genetics. As a result, they were able to detect five genes that, in all probability, played a significant role in the transformation of some of the oldest wolves in the first domestic dogs.

In the experiment, conducted by experts, were used 437 beagles — medium sized dogs with long ears, a good sense of smell used for hunting rabbits and hares, and when searching for explosives. All animals were grown in the laboratory.

Dogs in three minutes was allowed in the room where unknown to them, the container with treats, two of which animals were able to open themselves, and one with man. Some beagles throughout the three minutes of stubbornly trying to open the container yourself, but the more common reaction was that after some time to attract a person’s attention and “ask” for his help.

In the next stage of the study, the researchers compared the DNA samples of 95 “most social” and the 95 “least social” dogs. As it turned out, first of all the first from the second is different from other variations of five genes is likely responsible for the behavior. Experts emphasize that a dog’s affection for the man certainly is “responsible” many genes in complex interaction with each other, but the five of them have been allocated, can play a key role in this.

Experts say that human genes are “related” discovered in dogs, is also involved in the regulation of behavior, and their mutations can cause autism.

The results of their study, the scientists presented in the journal Science Reports.
