Mod called “fantasy” complaint of Iceland on the “dangerous maneuvers” Russian bombers

The official representative of the defense Ministry Igor Konashenkov commented on the statement by the foreign Ministry of Iceland about dangerous rapprochement of the Russian Tu-160 bombers with a civil airliner over the waters of the Norwegian sea. According to him, is “nothing more than a figment of their personal imagination”.

Major-General Igor Konashenkov said that the Russian bombers not flying with transponders turned off, according to the Icelandic side, and with the included and fulfilled the task of patrolling over the North-Eastern part of the Atlantic ocean, reports “Interfax”.

He also noted that the flight of a Russian Tu-160 took place at a considerable safe distance from civilian aircraft and air routes do not overlap. The flight was above the waters of the Barents and Norwegian seas in strict accordance with international rules.

Konashenkov said that in some areas the RF videoconferencing bombers were accompanied by NATO fighters.

The representative of the Russian defense Ministry said confusion in the statements of Icelandic diplomats and pilots that, in his opinion, speaks of “groundless accusations”. Konashenkov believes that the purpose of such stuffing is to use every opportunity to foment Europe’s Russophobia.

Earlier MKRU reported that the foreign Ministry of Iceland has accused Russian pilots of the Tu-160 in of unlawful presence in the airspace of Iceland and the threat to flight safety of civilian aircraft flying from Reykjavik to Stockholm. The pilot of this aircraft had previously stated that the Russian bombers flew so close that they can be seen in the cockpit window.
