Crying person, scientists have found gold

The real gold, or rather its nanoparticles found in human tears Siberian scientists. The world’s first study of the emotional-physiological” fluid microbiologists Akademgorodok held under an electron microscope.

As reported by “MK” in the Siberian branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, the research took place at the Novosibirsk Institute of chemical biology and fundamental medicine SB RAS. To obtain a sufficient amount of tears, the volunteers (there were about 50 people) had to make you cry crocodile tears with a powder sulfacetamide, which is present in conventional anti-inflammatory eye drops and can cause watery eyes.

Work has shown that tears can detect the presence of ophthalmic diseases at the earliest stages, in fact, for this study was launched. In particular, it has been reported that tear fluid in the development of primary open-angle glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy (retinal damage) changes the level of cytokines (information molecules).

In icbfm SB RAS for the first time studied the tear fluid in the transmission electron microscope and found cells epithelial cells and leukocytes. According to the researchers, their presence is explained by the fact that the tear film is in close contact with the surface epithelium of the cornea and conjunctiva, whose cells can get into the tear fluid.

The most significant finding of the Siberian researchers was the discovery in the lacrimal fluid of the smallest components of the extracellular exosomes, with a size of up to one hundred nanometers. Before that exosomes having the form of bubbles, was detected only in the saliva, cerebrospinal fluid, blood, urine, and breast milk. Their functions are different — and intercellular communication, and immune defense of the body.

Study under an electron microscope revealed that in samples of tear fluid and healthy, and sick people contain elements of cells that are on the surface of gold nanoparticles. Now the gold label will help researchers more quickly find valuable for ophthalmologists exosomes, since certain components of gold are their markers.
