Speaking at an emergency Sunday meeting of the security Council of the United Nations, which was initiated by the UK, US and France after the aggravation of the situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin expressed serious doubts that the currently existing situation in the SAR is able to ensure peace in the Republic.
According to the Russian Ambassador, “Orgy” that prevails in the ranks of the hundreds of armed bandgap operating in Syria, their unwillingness of anyone to obey, and the failure of the Western coalition to somehow influence them, suggests that Syria will continue to tear “civil wars”.
“In the Syrian Republic is now wielded by hundreds of armed groups. Air strikes on the territory of the country is applied to all and Sundry… for its part, the US has not moved even in determining which groups are terrorist and which belong to the so-called moderate opposition… All this suggests that the main goal of the White house is to preserve the combat potential opponents of the Assad government, whoever they were… Return Syria to peace has become almost impossible task,” Churkin was quoted by TASS.
“Despite the fact that the deal between Russia and USA on Syria did not take place, you must start a serious political process without “screwing around”… to Talk about the resuscitation of a truce today it is possible only on a collective basis… So call for a special UN envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura to relaunch the process that will lead to a cessation of hostilities on the territory of this Arabian country. And call for the envoy to call those who refused to negotiate,” – said the Russian permanent representative.
In addition, concerning the question of Russian-American cooperation in Syria, he stressed that the Kremlin no longer going to “look” on the White house and go for unilateral steps for the ceasefire in Syria.
“We already once agreed to the unilateral steps of the SAR, heeding the request of the US to temporarily abandon the involvement in the operations of the aircraft videoconferencing. But then it turned out that at first Washington said only about three days of no-fly zone over Syria, and then turned into seven days. This requirement is one of the tactics of the West… things Like this can’t continue indefinitely. Unilateral steps of Russia will not agree,” – said Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churki.
In turn, commenting on the current Syria situation, UN Secretary-General ban Ki-moon, called it “a nightmare” and called upon governments that are able to influence parties to the conflict in Syria, “to put an end to this nightmare.”
