Retired NATO Secretary General Rasmussen called for what, being in the position to speak shy: the military-political leadership of the United States, supposedly guaranteeing the prosperity of the Western world. And although the essence of his revelation is only campaigning for Clinton, they confirm that our world every year becomes more and more dangerous.
It seems that proximity to the Kiev authorities adversely affects the ability to adequately evaluate the world around us. The Advisor Petro Poroshenko, former Prime Minister of Denmark and former Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen published in the Wall Street Journal a programmatic article with the unambiguous headline: “the US should be the world’s policeman”. The subtitle in turn, reads: “Only America has the material and moral greatness, to avoid slipping into chaos and to maintain a peaceful life.”
“I know how important American leadership. And we desperately need a us President who is able and wants to lead the free world”
Starts this Eulogy to Washington with memories of Rasmussen about the meeting with Vladimir Putin, who told him: “After the end of the cold war, we have dissolved the Warsaw Treaty Organization. Accordingly, you need to dissolve NATO is a relic of the cold war. However, only in 2009, during a visit to Moscow, Rasmussen felt that President Putin “challenges to world order that the US created so successfully after the Second world war. And in the beginning of 2014 the President of Russia “invaded Ukraine and started a military operation in Syria” says the analyst.
Even if you leave the “invasion of Ukraine” on the conscience of Rasmussen, it should be noted that the operation in Syria Moscow beginning September 30, 2015. But according to the facts, apparently, is not the purpose of the text. In fact, former Secretary General of NATO and had never bothered to take liberties with reality. Recall his words 2003: “Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. We don’t think about it, we know about it. Iraq itself admitted that has mustard gas, nerve gas, anthrax, but Saddam is not open”. In the end, bombed Iraq, Saddam was hanged, none of the above found.
But back to today’s article: “I know how important American leadership. And we desperately need a us President who is able and wants to lead the free world and to resist the autocrats such as Vladimir Putin. A President who will lead from the front not from the rear.”
So it becomes clear that before us not so much a banal glorification of Pax Americana from the mouth of euroliberal much more banal agitation for Hillary Clinton. Generally difficult to imagine, for example, Askar Akayev or Stanislau Shushkevich campaigned the citizens for any presidential candidate. And in the US, it turns out, it happens when a foreigner-retiree calls to give their vote to the candidate from the ruling party. Freedom, we do not understand.
Of course, without the usual comparison of Russia and ISIS* while not done: “the middle East is torn apart by war. In North Africa, Libya has collapsed and has become a breeding ground for terrorists. In Eastern Europe, a resurgent Russia flagrantly invaded and forcefully seized the land of Ukraine. China builds muscles against its neighbors, and the pariah North Korea threatens nuclear attack,” Rasmussen lists the list of threats with which the world will not be able to cope without America.
The text ends with an obvious hint of Donald trump: “American isolationism would do the US and other freedom-loving countries are not safer, more prosperous, and less and unleashing dictators and other oppressors. First of all, American isolationism is a threat to the future of the rules-based world order that brought freedom and prosperity to such a large number of people.”
Even setting aside the fact that the text is propaganda material in support of Clinton, the aftertaste of reading it remains strange. In fact, Rasmussen proposes to maintain the status quo just because it is comfortable to exist, the United States and the European Union.
Rasmussen refuses to notice that more and more people in these countries refuse to consider the existing world order are correct, and the citizens of the United States three years ago was given to understand that they are tired of the role of “world policeman”. He does not notice and the fact that “freedom and prosperity” for the “Golden billion” is achieved through the suffering and death of the inhabitants of North Africa and the Middle East, which the analyst mentions only in passing. And does not Russia unleashed a bloody war, just the United States and NATO.
It is tempting to write that when the world had two poles – the USSR and the USA, the world was safe, but it is not quite so. The Soviet Union could not keep the United States from the Vietnam war, the invasions of Grenada and Panama. The United States was unable to oppose anything major operations of the Soviet forces in Hungary and Czechoslovakia and the war in Afghanistan. And that’s not counting the constant threat of nuclear war.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union (which in the understanding of the US and its allies is a victory in the cold war), the threat of nuclear attack has decreased, but US military activity, on the contrary, increased. Iraq, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan – one attack flowed into another, but the world did not become safer.
The first full-scale military operation of Russia abroad over the years – the rescue of South Ossetia in 2008 – has really caused shock in the West. But instead of having to stop and sit at the negotiating table, the pressure on Moscow continued to build up – which led to the current situation. If not supported by the US and EU coup in Ukraine, the citizens of this country still went to the Crimea without customs and border control.
USA in the role of “world policeman” make the world more and more explosive – it’s obvious to many even in America. To defeat Russia and China’s military power, the US cannot, since the very beginning of such a war is defeat for everyone. So, one way out – to negotiate, as, for example, agreed among members of the European Union. For all the shortcomings of supranational education he has reduced the risk of armed conflict among its members to a minimum. But in the course of merger no one called France or Germany to become a “European policeman”.
The article Rasmussen demonstrates not only the reluctance of a generation of politicians who consider themselves “winners” in the cold war, at least something to take into account the interests of Russia (or China, or any other state, not wanting to admit the US is the only world leader). It is also a sign of the growing panic in the headquarters of the Hillary Clinton – time to agitate for it even attract retirees from abroad.
Made around the same time Barack Obama at the UN General Assembly in which he again accused Russia of imperialism and intervention in the Affairs of other countries, confirms that the log in your own eye neither the outgoing President nor his party colleagues do not see – refuse to see.
So, in case of victory of Hillary Clinton, our planet will become a much more dangerous place than it is now.
