Georgy “Gustav” Guryanov from 1984 to 1990 he was a drummer, arranger, backing vocalist, and author of some bass of the legendary Viktor Tsoi. He also played in a unique project of Sergey Kuryokhin “Pop-Mechanics”. From 1990 to 2013, the artist worked as an artist, since 1993 has been honorary Professor of the New Academy of fine arts in St. Petersburg.
Guryanov was named the most expensive Russian artist of the last decade, according to the first analytical review of the market of Russian contemporary art InArt 2016. Its results were summed up on September 19. “We analyzed thousands of modern Russian artists, whose career reached its peak after the 1990-ies and whose work participated in the auction over the last 10 years, – said the Director of Sotheby’s Russia Irina Stepanova, – the most expensive artist Georgy Guryanov, particularly his “self-Portrait” was sold at the summer Russian auction in London for 183 612 thousand pounds.” It is also known that a pencil portrait of Viktor Tsoi left in his time with the hammer more than 200 thousand dollars.
Sadly, that actively sold work George became after his death, not when the artist needed money for expensive treatment. In 2013, his friend, musician Alex cherry has announced a fundraiser to help Guryanov, but, alas, the drummer could not be saved, and popularity as an artist came to him, in fact, only then.
George was professional in their field and in music and in painting. He graduated from the Leningrad art College named after Serov, was one of the founders of the club of friends of Mayakovsky” traveled so much. He was in Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Budapest, new York, Los Angeles, Copenhagen, cadaqués (beloved city of Salvador Dalí), long lived in London, Berlin, Spain. In the last years of his life lived and worked in St. Petersburg. In addition to working in Film, he also played bass guitar in a band of Sergey “Sam” Semyonov (“Uncle Sam”), assisted in the drum team “militia” on the album’s new year”, was the drummer in “the Game” and punk band “Automatic satisfactory”. Alias “Gustav” appeared in the 1980s. Guryanov was one of the brightest representatives of the rock-and-roll and generally creative avant-garde of the world, always open for interesting projects and experiments.
