Petro Poroshenko said that Kiev still hopes to receive lethal weapons from Western countries. According to him, the Armed forces of Ukraine have proved that they can rely on.
Ukraine continues to depend on military support of Western countries. About it the President Petro Poroshenko said at a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian community in new York, reports “Interfax”.
“Second in order (after the renewal of sanctions against Russia), but not less important issue is the transfer of lethal weapons and other military technology of the Ukrainian APU (Armed forces of Ukraine”, — said the President.
According to him, previously, the West did not trust the Ukrainian army. “At the beginning of my presidential term, our partners from the United States said that they have 100% information that 50 percent of the Ukrainian armed forces of Ukraine is corrupt, even 50 percent — KGB agents,” he said.
However, Poroshenko stressed that over the past 2.5 years the situation has changed dramatically: the Ukrainian military have proved that they can rely on. The politician tried to assure that the transfer of Kiev lethal weapons “completely safe” because “the Ukrainian side never was a threat.”
The President also added that it is unlikely that the aggressor will resort to open invasion, if the “stand with Ukraine shoulder to shoulder, including in matters of military cooperation, is the whole world, including the United States.”
Officially, Washington provides military aid to Kiev in the form of supply of uniforms, equipment and instructors. The Ambassador of Ukraine in Washington Valeriy Chaly said that the issue of supply of lethal weapons may be considered again after the presidential election in the United States.
