The EU Council extended by six months sanctions against Russia

The EU Council has published the September 15 press release on the extension for 6 months sanctions against Russia. The restrictive measures apply to 146 individuals and 37 organizations. Sanctions extended until March 15, 2017.

As stated in the press release, these measures involve action against the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

Sanctions were imposed in March 2014, and was then extended in March 2016. The Council of the EU, assessing the current situation, saw no reason to change the list of individuals and entities targeted by the sanctions.

Details will be published in the EU official journal on Friday 16 September.

The European Council recalls that also until 31 January 2017, apply economic sanctions against specific sectors of the Russian economy.

Until June 23, 2017 apply restrictive measures “in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol”.
