Vladimir Kekhman declared about marriage — right in the theatre

Perhaps, none of the Russian musical theatre did not open its season in such an intriguing setting. The performance of “La Boheme” shrouded in an aura of scandal about plagiarism. Artistic Director of the theatre Vladimir Kekhman is the procedure for personal bankruptcy. Metropolitan critics, before the crowds arrived for the premiere of Mikhailovsky, now ignore them, “punishing” Kekhman for his appointment as the Director of the Novosibirsk Opera after the scandal with the “Tannhauser”. And the artistic Director of the outwardly calm and in early October was going to marry.

With “La Boheme” story. Four years ago in the repertoire of the Mikhailovsky appeared production of the French Director Arnaud Bernard. Cute play in which the Director was made and set designer, and lighting designer. The dying Mimi in the final, was covered in crimson roses, and the mass of the stage bore the clear imprint of the style of the musical. And here’s the confusion: world-renowned Director Robert Carsen, who is from the far Northern Palmyra delivered a detailed description of the play, saw in it an obvious resemblance to his own statement in the Flemish Opera.

Guide Michael took the only right in this situation, the solution is to purchase a license for the transfer of the play Carson to the stage and put it in strict accordance with the author’s original, which (unsurprisingly) turned out to be much more talented and subtle than a stolen and simplified copy of Bernard. The musical Director was this time Mikhail Tatarnikov, who performed brilliant music of Puccini with the skill and sincerity of the musician, great sense of style and the imaginative world of the composer, whose work in the traditional romantic intonation combined with mental characteristics of the twentieth century. The role of Rodolfo for the premiere was performed by Najmiddin Mavlyanov, for which the appearance on the stage was not the most successful in life. Health status did not allow the singer to demonstrate fully their extraordinary vocal capabilities. And yet the will power and artistry of the tenor won a bad feeling. His partner Tatiana ryaguzova was very expressive and touching as Mimi. The Director Robert Carson, which can be radical, and may surprise the careful and reverent attitude to the author’s meaning, in this case, successfully combined both principles. His “La Boheme” is far from domestic realism: is a poetic and very estetizirovat the story of a young and frivolous people for whom poverty is a reason for jokes, freedom precious as love, and death — illogical interchange, which simply has no place in their Bohemian flutter of life. That is why the performance is much irony, musiclover techniques. The death of Mimi in the finale becomes a complete surprise for the characters. And even a sophisticated audience that knows that everything will end as it is impossible more tragic experiences this death as something wrong, absurd — as if the intruders from another genre.

After the performance Vladimir Kekhman told the observer “MK” about the plans of the Mikhailovsky theatre for the new season, and whether his personal bankruptcy affect the work at the state theatre.

— One hundred percent occupancy of the hall is a unique record, which means the main thing: to us goes public. And so for us it does not matter how it is formed repertoire transfers or new productions. These are projects that are suited to the theater. Moscow-criticism of us no longer come. And in St. Petersburg and in Novosibirsk. And delivered me from doubt, from looking at some “authoritative” opinion.

Certainly, we prepare to celebrate in 2018, the Year the Petipa original portrait which is in my office. Interesting ballet performances will be devoted to this. As for Opera, we have planned original projects: one to Jurgen Flimm, which will present “Falstaff” by Verdi with a young Russian Director Slava Starodubtsev and Director of the Lausanne Opera Eric Vigier — he will put “the Barber of Seville”. It’s funny that Starodubtsev had never been to the Mikhailovsky theatre, just could not get here. Last season we released “the Magic flute” by Mozart, and her success among the public, and the troupe, and the orchestra is inspired us to continue working with the brilliant music of Mozart. We will do several of Mozart’s works. And these are only original productions.

My work at the Mikhailovsky theatre is no influence — I have a contract until 2020 as the artistic Director of the theatre. With regard to Novosibirsk, the minimum six months, I’m going to be in their offices, and there we will see how the law will allow me to be a CEO, what I would like. But if the law won’t allow it, then I will be the first person in our country who will be stepping down from the post through a bankruptcy.

2 Oct I’m getting married. And it will happen in the theater, where they will play children’s ballet “Chipollino” — a regular poster show you can buy tickets. It will involve dancers from around the world. They will dance for me and my bride of IDA. And all who come at my invitation, to be with children. Because the outcome of the family — children.
