Austria for almost six months without a President lives in the country. And how many will live yet — unknown. In any case, the Minister of the interior Wolfgang Sobotka announced that the presidential election is re-transferred from the 2nd of October for an indefinite period. In the best case – on the 4th of December this year. And the reason is the defect of the glue on envelopes used for voting.
The events developed as follows: in the second round election left two candidates: a former head of the green Party, van der Bellen from 20.38% of the votes and the leader of the far-right freedom party Norbert Hofer, who voted for 36.4% of voters. Initially, the majority of votes in the second round was on the side of a Hofer, but then the mail began to come messages with votes in support of van der Bell, with the result that he won by a margin of just 0.3% of the votes.
However-wing freedom party and its candidate Norbert Hofer, who lost in the second round his opponent Alexander van der Bellano only 31 000 votes, filed a complaint to the constitutional court of the country. Having considered the complaint, he annulled the results of the second round due to a number of minor violations.
The government was forced to appoint repeated elections. Their conduct was scheduled for 2 October. And suddenly it turned out that this time the election of the President “not glued” due to bad glue on envelopes that are to be used for voting.
An examination showed that the glue is of poor quality, which is impossible as the envelopes should be sealed. But if they go to the polling stations open, the forms on which voters have recorded their will will be declared invalid, what will be the new cause for litigation between the contenders for the presidency.
When, finally, the Austrians will be able to choose a new President, the country nobody knows. According to the Minister of the interior Wolfgang Sobotka, can 27 November, and maybe December 4 — for a new election date has yet to vote more than two thirds of deputies of the Parliament.
In the meantime, here already half a year Austria without a President lives. And nobody, it seems, it does not interfere. So, maybe, and not have to fuss about the next presidential election? Or just save: to teach the Austrians to use the language for pasting envelopes as well, just like in Russia? We do it just brilliantly.
