Poroshenko refused to give to Russian the status state in Ukraine

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in his speech before deputies of the Verkhovna Rada said that the only official language in the country is and will be only Ukrainian. However, he urged media managers to be “conscious”.

“The status of the Ukrainian language as the only state language will be filled with real meaning, although we will respect the rights of national minorities”, – quotes the TV channel “112” the message Poroshenko.

The head of state urged the leaders of the media on their own initiative to increase the share of Ukrainian-language broadcasting. Simultaneously, Poroshenko stressed that the authorities do not intend to encroach on the rights of television and radio stations broadcast in Russian and other languages to meet the needs of all citizens of Ukraine”.

About two weeks ago Poroshenko during a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian Diaspora called on the owners of TV channels “to recall the conscience.

Recall that after the coup in Ukraine in February 2014, members of Parliament first abolished the law on “On state language policy”, in which the regions of the country could give the status of official non-state languages.

In early July 2016 Poroshenko has signed a law requiring radio stations to broadcast at least 35 percent of the songs in the state language.
