Putin held in Hangzhou a series of talks

Chinese in Hangzhou, began the summit of “Big twenty” (G20). On it Vladimir Putin held important talks. Among the interlocutors of the Russian leader – the new Prime Minister of great Britain Theresa may, the Chinese President XI Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama. These and other meetings were characterized by a number of interesting details.

For Russia, the summit of the twenty leading Nations of the world have a special significance. When, after the events of the spring of 2014, the country was excluded from the “Big eight” (there is, in addition to Russia, were Italy, Germany, UK, USA, Canada, France and Japan), meeting in the G20 have become the main from a reputable international clubs, which includes the Russian leadership and where leaders can privately and together to discuss the major issues of world politics and economy.

“Finally these kinds of conflicts can be solved exclusively by political means”

Moreover, they have become for Russia an adequate substitute “eight”. After all, its members are in the “Big twenty”. Participants of the G20 are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, UK, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Canada, China, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, USA, Turkey, France, South Korea, South Africa, Japan and the European Union.

The first important talks that Putin held in Hangzhou, was the conversation with the owner of the event, Chinese President XI Jinping. It began with a gift. The Russian President gave XI took XI’s box of Russian ice cream. Its the President of China loves. “At home we eat this ice cream. You have a better cream, so it you especially tasty. I really like it. Thank you for that courtesy,” said XI. The Chinese leader do in this day praised the Northern neighbor. So, he emphasized that “China sees the prosperity of Russia as your own chance. China, as is known, the largest of the countries that have not joined anti-Russian sanctions. It recent years, determines the agenda of Russian-Chinese contacts, which is dominated by economic issues. So it was now.

On the sidelines of the summit in Hangzhou, Gazprom and China national petroleum Corporation (CNPC), represented by its leaders, Alexey Miller and Wang Yilin have signed a contract for the construction of submerged crossing under the Amur river transboundary gas pipeline “Power of Siberia” – a long-awaited event. This pipeline is perhaps the most significant Sino-Russian economic project of recent times. It is expected that over the next 30 years will be to pump up to 38 billion cubic meters of gas a year from Siberian gas fields.

By the way, Putin and XI Jinping recalled that both countries are part of the overall economic integration of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), the meeting of heads which took place there in Hangzhou. Putin, in particular, urged to withdraw in full mode pool of foreign exchange reserves and the total for the BRICS New development Bank. The Bank’s strategy, according to the Russian President, could afford to start lending in national currencies of the four and to the implementation of specific economic projects.

Putin also drew attention to the fact that the world trade organization is gradually losing its status as the only platform for the development of the rules of world trade. The responsibility for this, he indirectly laid on the United States by mentioning two transnational economic project, where an important role is played by the Americans, the TRANS-Atlantic and TRANS-Pacific partnership. “We believe that this “answer” some of our partners on the challenges we faced during the negotiations in the WTO. But this is not the best way to solve problems, the best way is still to negotiate to reach a compromise”, – quotes its RIA “Novosti”.

But Putin’s conversation with the new Prime Minister of great Britain Teresa may, held behind closed doors, was dedicated not to the economy, which is understandable. The British government are strong supporters and lobbyists for sanctions against Russia. As told journalists the Minister of economic development of Russia Alexei Ulyukayev at the meeting of Putin and may have discussed the issues of security, combating the terrorist threat, the issues of settlement in Syria, the fight against drug trafficking, the issues of aviation security.” In his words, was “the search of contact those points where it is possible to resume the dialogue”.

These points of contact, it seems, finally found with others is not always convenient for the Russian partner – Turkey. According to the speaker, the meeting between Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the recent abolition of economic barriers to bilateral cooperation – introduced a year ago, Russian and Turkish mutual embargo on the supply of some commodities, particularly livestock products. “We are working to remove these restrictions,” he said, making it clear that the wait for the lifting of the embargo is long.

By the way, the meeting of the two presidents started with the fact that Erdogan thanked the Russian President for the resumption of Charter flights to Turkey. A curious detail: during the ceremony, photographing the leaders of “twenty”, the Turkish President was standing at the right hand of the Russian leader. On the left was the President of France Francois Hollande, with whom, as well as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Putin traditionally holds conversations, in particular, on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine.

Interestingly, the most volatile issue in relations between Russia and Turkey (the situation in Syria) Putin touched upon only in the framework of BRICS summit, and not after his conversation with Erdogan. The Russian President said that “Islamic state*” is a global threat, drew attention to the importance of the actions of Russian military in Syria and reminded that Russia together with other partners, successfully managed to maintain the ceasefire regime in several Syrian regions. “Finally these kinds of conflicts can be solved exclusively by political means”, – quotes its words of RIA “news”.

It is known that Syria was discussed in Hangzhou in the course of the meeting, the foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov with his us counterpart John Kerry. Soon after, the source told the news about the upcoming 5 September in talks between Putin and Obama, who did not appear on the agenda of the summit. The source claims that talks on the American initiative.

In General, Obama’s visit to Hangzhou was associated with many strange and unexpected. The arrival of the Americans in the city began with a scandal. Before Obama’s plane was not the red carpet and ramp. As a result, the President was forced to climb down the emergency ladder. The Chinese tried to ban reporters pool of the American President to shoot. The Chinese side argues that Americans from the ramp and red carpet somehow refused to do that at least unusual and does not fit with the diplomatic Protocol.

And in the course of photographing the leaders of “twenty” unusually behaved himself Obama. He, against the usages, did not shake hands with the Russian leader. Which, as it turned out, did not prevent him from insisting on a conversation with eye to eye.
