Putin calmed the Baltic States: Russia is not going to attack them

Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with Bloomberg commented on the permanent circulating in the Western media rumors that Russia was allegedly preparing to attack the Baltic States, and then between Moscow and NATO will be a global military conflict involving nuclear weapons.

During the meeting with the Russian President managing editor John Micklethwait asked Putin to comment on widespread in the West, the view that Moscow sought to expand its area of influence, in this case it primarily concerns the Baltic States.

“You can say something that would reassure them on this score?”, asked Micklethwait.

In turn, Vladimir Putin said that “sensible people who are really doing politics” are well aware that all these conjectures are “complete nonsense”.

The head of state recalled that the NATO countries and reside “somewhere in the 600 million people”, whereas Russia is only 146 million.

“But are you really suggesting that we’re going to conquer the Baltic States using nuclear weapons? That kind of nonsense?”, the President concluded. Transcript of Putin’s interview published on the Kremlin website.

As previously reported, at the beginning of next year, NATO will strengthen its presence in Eastern Europe. In the Baltic States will be deployed several battalions of the Alliance.
