Novella Matveeva — one of the most important and brightest poets. Few people know that she was a novelist, playwright and literary critic. Her grandfather was Nikolai Petrovich Matveev-Amur, who lived a long time in Japan, and the famous Russian poet Ivan Elagin was her cousin. She began writing in the ‘ 50s. It was from the fresh wind, looseness of the human voice. From Matveeva has always been uncompromising loners. In fact, the horror of our times in that it by and large no one complained, it was not interesting nor officialdom, nor progressives, uncomfortable for any format. I have read her latest collection of poems some thick literary magazines. You know, her poems were not only lyrical, but also very sharp pressing civic issue. These verses have caused some people affection, others misunderstanding, but by and large it is, being with the people, drank the Cup final alone. By the way, many have compared the lyrics Matveeva with the poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva, and this is not surprising. If we talk about my favorite of her works, this may be the best thing written about love — “my Love you feared in vain…”. These verses were poignant song. And you have to remember her line as a Covenant: “I stepped onto the boat, and the boat turned out to be from the newspaper yesterday…”. I would like to poets such as Novella Matveeva, remained for us in that everlasting newspaper of great poetry, which never gets old.
