Sergei Lavrov believes that nothing prevents the Western countries to recognize Crimea as part of Russia, reports RIA Novosti.
“No legal problems with the recognition of our Western partners joining of Crimea to the Russian Federation, with its reunification, does not exist”, – said the Minister at a meeting with students and teaching staff of the University.
The Minister explained that the reason why Western countries still did not recognize the reunification of the Peninsula with Russia, lies in the modern geopolitical situation. The fact that the West led by the United States continues to stick to their line, aimed at containment of Russia. The US “have sinned” this long before the conflict in Ukraine, said the Minister.
According to Lavrov, Western colleagues, Russia began to gain excessive independence. “They have not yet realized that this isn’t some situation, but part of our existence,” said the Russian diplomat.
The Minister also cited the example of the Republic of Kosovo, which declared its independence in 2008. “Our Western partners like the devil from Holy water run from any suggestion to analyze what happened in Crimea through the prism of what they did in Kosovo,” – said Lavrov.
However, in his view, these “comparison is more than appropriate,” because in Kosovo there was no referendum and physical threat to the Kosovo Albanians, reports IA Regnum.
