Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier admitted the return of Russia in the “big eight”. As stated by the head of German diplomacy in an interview with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland, it’s possible after progress in Donbass and Syria. “The key to return to the G8 format has been in Moscow”, – said the Minister.
“On Ukrainian Affairs progress is not felt, it is still possible to Express only regret the lack of progress on the part of Kiev to implement the Minsk agreements”, — said the representative of the Russian leader.
“The G8 is very important for us because this club is the most important and developed countries of the world – reminded “MK” associate Professor of the Department of European law of MGIMO Nikolay Topornin</strong>. – Let it is informal, but one part in it, first, gives a higher image and, second, it gives the opportunity, on equal terms with other countries and with the most important leaders of these countries to discuss the most serious problems. And now it turns out that we are deprived of this opportunity. Of course, we can say that we can meet at the G20, but there is a slightly different range of issues and different format. There are third world countries, and the BRICS countries. It is an important country, but there are other problems.
Steinmeier is not the first time makes such a statement. Prior to that, he said that it is necessary to lift sanctions in stages in accordance with the implementation of the Minsk agreements. It is clear that immediately to resolve all issues will not work, but we must go step by step. He had to say, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel has no objection to such statements.
I would note that next year Germany will hold parliamentary elections. Now, the power is the “Grand coalition”. A rating of Merkel amid immigration crisis has seriously declined. Less than half of German voters are ready to vote. Given the fact that the Social democratic party of Germany (SPD) did not have the highest ratings, its leaders and most brilliant representative in the government – Steinmeier – trying to find new stories in which they could earn a new electoral points.
One of these stories is that the part of the German establishment and the business community dissatisfied with the sanctions regime against Russia, because it is clear that the German company not make a profit. Cooperation of Germany and Russia is the most fundamental cooperation in Europe. It was mutually beneficial. The parties shall bear the loss. It is obvious that the dissatisfaction of German Industrialists may affect the results of the parliamentary elections. In my opinion, Steinmeier wants to try to reach out to these representatives of business”.
“This “progress” for the European elite means that Russia needs to abandon support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for obvious reasons because manic desire to overthrow Assad is still in possession of the Western elites – said the “MK” the General Director of the Center for political information Alexei Mukhin. – “Progress” in the Donbass – is a strange condition. It depends on Kiev. It prevents the Donbass has become more favourable for the peaceful development of the situation and not very interested in the fact that with Russia lifted sanctions, and she came back to the group. They will do everything to implement the Minsk agreements. It was Germany and France are the guarantors that Kiev needs to implement those agreements. He instead, pour them into the ears of what he is allegedly trying to implement the Minsk agreements, or complied with these agreements. This is nonsense. In this regard, the statement of Steinmeier looks very strange. He makes demands that are clearly unenforceable”.
