A group of researchers representing the University of Warwick, came to the conclusion that the mysterious “planet X”, the debate about the existence of which has been conducted since the beginning of the year, may contribute to the destruction of the Solar system. When, after billions of years the Sun will engulf the closest to his heavenly body, “planet X” are likely to “throw in open space away from the sun the gas giants — Uranus and Neptune.
The researchers explain that in seven billion years the Sun will be in the next stage of evolution of stars of its type, becoming a red giant and engulfing the nearest planets. After that, the Sun will again shrink, becoming a white dwarf. Previously it was assumed that all these metamorphoses are not too will affect the way in its orbit around the Sun will move Uranus, Neptune and the other giant gas planets. However, the computer model proposed by scientists, suggests that at a certain stage the gas giants will come into the gravitational pull of “planet X”, then at least one of them will be thrown out of the Solar system.
The study is being published in the scientific journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Earlier, another group of scientists from Spain and Britain also said that in the future a hypothetical ninth planet may play a role in the destruction of the Solar system. However, then it was about much more than the “short” term — the next tens of millions of years. According to scientists, in the not too distant space standards future beyond the Solar system can be thrown such dwarf planets as VN112 2004, 2007 and 2013 TG422 RF98, the diameter of each of which is from 100 to 300 kilometers.
The possibility of the existence on the fringes of the Solar system’s ninth planet was theoretically proved in the beginning of this year by astronomers Michael brown and Konstantin Batygin. As shown by calculations of scientists, this planet should be about 10 times heavier than Earth and have a 2-4 times larger diameter than ours, and a complete revolution around the Sun 15-20 thousand years. Further studies conducted by different teams of specialists, have allowed to specify which part of the night sky the planet is to seek and surround it with lots almost fantastic theories — to the extent that in the future, “planet X” will direct the Earth are many comets and they are destroying humanity.
However, some experts still quite skeptical about the very possibility of the existence of the planet — in particular scientists from the Harvard-Smithsonian center for astrophysics estimate the probability of even the most “realistic” of the scenarios of its occurrence is not more than ten percent.
