The United States supports a unified Syria, said gossekretar U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry after talks with Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He noted that Washington does not support Kurdish autonomy.
“We do not support an independent Kurdish initiative. Work with them, with some elements of the Kurdish forces, was conducted on a very limited basis,” said Kerry. He also stressed that the conflict in Syria can only be resolved through political means.
Lavrov in turn said that the Kurds should be fully represented in the Syrian settlement. The Russian foreign Minister also stressed the need to convene a new round of Syrian peace talks. “We need in the near future to announce the convening of the direct round of talks between the government and the entire spectrum of the opposition,” he said.
