On Friday in Minsk hosted a regular meeting of the contact group on the resolution of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. The representatives of Ukraine managed to revive the seemingly frozen situation. A member of the Contact group Viktor Medvedchuk acknowledged the Crimea part of the Russian Federation, Irina Gerashchenko said that Ukraine will agree to a compromise, a member of the bloc of Petro Poroshenko announced the possible voting on the special status of Donbass and Amnesty for full and adviser to the head of the SBU — about the exchange of prisoners by the formula “all for all”.
The performance of the last tripartite meeting in Minsk was, quite frankly, zero. It concerned how the issue of withdrawal of the parties from the frontline and exchange of prisoners. This Friday, the rhetoric of representatives of Kiev has changed markedly. It is possible that it has something to do with the statement of German Chancellor Angela Merkel: “the situation with the implementation of the Minsk agreements extremely difficult. We have not achieved all that I wanted”.
Iryna Herashchenko, the representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian sub-group, firmly stated that Kiev is ready to compromise on the issue of returning prisoners of war, and if literally: “to pull out and get our boys”. But she didn’t explain exactly what concessions her government is ready to go. For it is made the adviser of the head of the security Service of Ukraine Yuriy Tandit, who in an interview with Ukrainian media said about the readiness to start sharing according to a formula prescribed by the Minsk agreements, “all for all”.
Gerashchenko also called for a complete cease-fire from 1 September this year. To do this, she offered to “propagate” a contact group, adding a fifth subgroup. This Association, according to her, will be responsible solely for the settlement of the situation in Ukraine uncontrolled border with Russia, and also for the admission to the Russian-Ukrainian frontier of international observers of the OSCE. So far, however, the creation of new structures – only the desire of Kiev.
While in Minsk, first Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Irina Gerashchenko did not miss the opportunity to touch on the topic of elections in Russia. The negotiator asked the Belarusian colleagues not to visit “bitten off and stolen” from Ukraine’s Crimea to monitor the elections to the state Duma of Russia. Answer of Minsk is not followed.
It seems that Gerashchenko strongly disagree other representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian sub – Viktor Medvedchuk, who in an interview with reporters, said that Crimea is Russia and changes in this are expected. “Don’t expect that the Peninsula will return to Ukraine”, – said Medvedchuk, almost literally repeating the quote Leonid Kravchuk, the first President of Ukraine. Medvedchuk believes that Ukraine is his fault, finally lost the Peninsula. You cannot de-energize the Crimea, to block the supply of food, to organize sabotage and at the same time believe that the residents will want to return to Ukraine, he said. His words promptly responded Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea Ruslan Balbec, who compared the statement of Medvedchuk strike with a knife in the back” Poroshenko. The official has not excluded that in the near future before the walls of the presidential administration appears “Peter, what about the Crimea, you’re wrong!”.
Another interesting signal from Kiev: propresidential MP from the faction “Block of Petro Poroshenko” Leonid Kozachenko said that it was time to give the Donbass, the Minsk agreement stipulates a special status. According to him, it was “only straw”, which can help in resolving the crisis in Ukraine, so vote to correct this in the Verkhovna Rada will be found.
Nevertheless, the DNR accused Kiev of unwillingness to cooperate effectively within the framework of the Minsk group. Acting Minister of foreign Affairs of the DPR Natalia Nikonorova said that today the Ukrainian side has not voiced its proposals on the creation of roadmaps and projects proposed by DNR, openly ignored. Representatives of the Republic also raised the topic of non-payment by Ukraine of pensions to citizens in the territories of the DNI and LC. . Kiev justified by the difficult financial situation in the country.
