“The decision was not easy”: Medvedev commented on the refusal of indexation of pensions

The Russian government took the decision to make pensioners a payoff in amount of five thousand rubles instead of the planned this year’s second increase. Informed about this option already reported by the media. It is expected that the money retirees will receive in January of the following year.

“The results of today’s discussion, I believe the right to carry out indexing in the form of a lump-sum cash payment, defined in amount of 5 thousand rubles. And will be paid in January 2017”, – TASS quoted Medvedev.

The head of government noted that for these purposes from the budget will be allocated 200 billion rubles. The Prime Minister added that the decision to change the indexation of payments was given to the government is not easy. However, he expressed confidence that the money will help retirees to recoup losses from rising prices.

The announcement came during the meeting with participation of first Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, Minister of economic development Alexei Ulyukayev, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and the Minister of labour and social protection Maxim Topilin.

The first rumors that a second indexation of pensions this year will be replaced by a one-time paymaster, appeared in the middle of last week. However, later in the Cabinet of Ministers have not confirmed this information, noting that this issue will be resolved before the end of the month.

This year pensions for pensioners in Russia have been indexed only 4%, with actual inflation at 12.9%. While working pensioners did not receive any allowances.
